The Happiness of Water1/13/2014 Just found out my short story, "The Happiness of Water", which appears in my recent fiction chapbook The Smashing House, was reviewed in a review of the magazine it first appeared in. The Review Review wrote, “The Happiness of Water” drops the reader right into a dank crawlspace under a home where a man has been trapped for several days by an injured fox. The absurdity of being down there for days just under the house without the family members even seeming to notice is not lost on the man as he considers his situation and weighs his choices. Described as an “existential standoff” McCullough stays close to the vein focusing not on foreground or conclusion but rather the dire waning moments of life and the choices that must be made. Check out Structo Magazine. It's a quirky, smart, rangy, and edgy mag out of the UK. You can read thestory here: Structo Magazine. The air is bright1/7/2014 It's hovering around 5 degrees here on the Jersey Shore, five miles in from the water. The sun is warm through the window, though the cold drafts through here and there, a fresh burst across the face now and then. I feel the polar vortex in the confluence of hot refracted light on my face through glass and the sharp, clear air I breathe in from the window. Luck has allowed some of my poems from the new manuscript, Jersey Mercy, into the world this week: At Drunken Boat 18, a section on the ocean, curated by the fierce and wonderful travleer and artist Marie-Elizabeth Mali. Check out her pics, as well as the other poems. The Good Men Project has my poem "Trance" up and will publish a couple of others in the coming months in their new poetry section curated by poet Charlie Bondhus. Archives
